The Birth of Coastal Cares
Coastal Cares was born from a deeply personal and heartfelt situation that affected a family member of a Coastal Carriers team member. This team member, known for his humility and strength, was not one to ask for help. However, his fellow employees felt compelled to support him during this challenging time. What started as an internal effort to assist a colleague quickly grew into something much larger. Coastal Cares has now become a beacon of hope and support for those in need within the Coastal Carriers family and beyond.
How Coastal Cares Operates
Coastal Cares is designed as a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization to help those facing difficult circumstances. Anyone can apply for or be nominated to receive help from the charity. Employees contribute to the fund through weekly or monthly donations, showing their commitment to supporting their peers and the community. The charity addresses a variety of needs, including funeral expenses, medical issues, rent during tough times, and more. Coastal Cares operates with a board of directors that reviews applications and nominations, ensuring that aid is distributed fairly and effectively. Importantly, Coastal Cares pays bills directly rather than handing out cash, maintaining transparency and accountability. The charity also enjoys strong support from Coastal Carriers’ corporate office, with notable involvement and contributions from John Dunard and family, reflecting the company’s overarching commitment to this noble cause.
