CSTK Kansas City Gives Back: Supporting the Armourdale 5K and Neighborhood Mural

Posted - October 30, 2025

At CSTK Kansas City, supporting the Armourdale community isn’t just an act of goodwill, it’s part of who we are. This year, CSTK proudly partnered with the Armourdale Renewal Association (ARA) on two major local initiatives that highlight the neighborhood’s energy, history, and heart: the Armourdale 5K Run & Walk and the creation of the 1951 Flood Mural.

Running Toward Renewal

CSTK served as a sponsor for the innaugural Armourdale 5K Run & Walk, bringing residents and businesses together for a day of fitness, fun, and neighborhood pride. The race winds through the same historic streets where CSTK has operated for decades, a fitting symbol of movement, endurance, and community progress.

“This community has supported CSTK for a long time,” said Dave Burns, Vice President and Kansas City General Manager for CSTK. “We’re proud to give back to Armourdale and help the Renewal Association strengthen and celebrate this neighborhood. The 5K is a great reminder that we’re all part of something bigger.”

The event, which will hopefully become an annual tradition, raised awareness and funds for the ARA’s mission to make Armourdale a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant place to live and work.May be an image of text that says 'ART bodies PINSI FINISH BoutesnC.com 5219 5262'

Painting the Past Into the Future

CSTK also took part in one of the most exciting local projects in recent memory, the unveiling of the 1951 Flood Mural. Dedicated last Friday at L.A. True Value Hardware (631 Kansas Avenue), the mural commemorates the devastating flood that reshaped the Armourdale community and honors the spirit of rebuilding that defines it to this day.

Despite a rainy forecast, the dedication ceremony drew an impressive crowd, including the Mayor of Kansas City, Kansas, local council members, and dozens of neighbors eager to see the finished artwork. The mural also coincided with L.A. Hardware’s 40th anniversary, marking a perfect moment of reflection and renewal for the community.

“This project was so special because it brought everyone together,” said Dinie Sanders, CSTK Administrative Manager and current President of the Armourdale Renewal Association. “We didn’t just sponsor it, we literally helped paint it! Tyler Downey, Keisha Downs, and I all put brush to wall. On a rainy day, surrounded by friends, business owners, and city leaders, we helped make history.”

The mural stands as a vibrant reminder of Armourdale’s perseverance — a story of survival and renewal that continues to inspire both residents and local businesses alike.

Building a Better Armourdale, Together

From running shoes to paintbrushes, CSTK is committed to being an active part of Armourdale’s story — past, present, and future.

“As a company, we’re proud to call this neighborhood home,” said Burns. “It’s our responsibility and our privilege to help it grow stronger.”

CSTK looks forward to continuing its partnership with the Armourdale Renewal Association and supporting even more community events that make this historic Kansas City district shine.
