Customer Spotlight: Metro Heavy Haul — Built for the Long Haul

Posted - June 17, 2025

Metro Heavy Haul, based in Oklahoma City, is quickly becoming a trusted name in specialized heavy equipment transport across the U.S. What began as a concrete construction company, Metro Ready Mix, founded by Eric and Susan Owens, has evolved into a dynamic force in the hauling industry. With four former concrete plants in the OKC metro area and more than 150 pieces of heavy equipment in their fleet, the company made a strategic shift in 2018—selling their concrete manufacturing operations to focus exclusively on trucking and hauling services.

In 2023, Metro Heavy Haul officially launched its Heavy Haul division to serve a growing demand for reliable, nationwide transport of oversized equipment. Under the leadership of Division Manager Courtney Turner, the division was created to move massive loads—cranes, generators, oil field machinery, and even specialized equipment for the Department of Defense—up to 160,000 pounds.

“When I came on, we had just one long-haul truck,” says Courtney. “But the demand and opportunity were clear.” Within six months, the company ordered its second truck. By the end of 2025, the fleet is expected to grow to five heavy haul trucks, and that number is projected to double by the end of 2026.

To meet the performance demands of long-distance hauling, Metro Heavy Haul turned to Thermo King TriPac auxiliary power units (APUs)—a choice driven by a need for fuel efficiency, engine longevity, and driver comfort.

“The Thermo King name speaks for itself,” explains Courtney on why he chose TriPac units. “When you do your research on what company and product you want to depend on, Thermo King is the obvious number one. I’ve used the competitors before and I’ve never been happy with their performance compared to the TK units.”

Metro Heavy Haul worked with CSTK Oklahoma City for the installation of the TriPac units, and the experience exceeded expectations. “This was a custom show truck,” explained the team. “It needed more than a standard install—we wanted all the plumbing and condenser systems hidden, plus custom bracket fabrication. And we were on a tight schedule.”

CSTK rose to the challenge, delivering a flawless custom installation with expert craftsmanship and attention to detail. From custom brackets to a clean, seamless look, the team ensured the unit didn’t just perform—it impressed. All within the necessary timeframe.

With a growing fleet, a national footprint, and a clear focus on efficiency and service, Metro Heavy Haul is positioned to become a major player in the heavy transport sector. CSTK is proud to support their journey with cutting-edge equipment, expert service, and a shared commitment to getting the job done right.
